Extenders do not add to the overall width/height of door frames.
By choosing extenders the frame will be made slightly smaller, in order to keep the overall width/height including the extender the same as your measurements.
Alternatively, if you wish to add an extender in addition to the overall width/height you measured, please choose the extender and leave a note at checkout.

Door colours

Our doors can be made for you in an amazing variety of colours.

All our colours are guaranteed for 10 years for colour stability and discolouration.

Most colours are available as full (both sides) or half (colour outside and plain flat white inside).

To preview the texture and colour, please click the frame colour button and then the zoom icon on the colour images.

Agate grey doors that open out, have black hinges.

Disclaimer: We cannot guarantee to match existing colours. For a colour match, please email us with your address for a free swatch.

Internal magnetic blinds

These integrated Venetian blinds are permanently sealed inside the cavity of double-glazed units, keeping them totally out of harm's way in between the glass panes.

  • The external magnetic slider is treated with a patented anti-bacterial finish, for long-lasting protection also against viruses.
  • No cords, fully compliant with child safety standards.
  • Requires only one control to both raise and tilt the slats.
  • The slats are always clean!

To lock the door, lift the handle which engages the multi point locks, then turn the key.

External cill

Most doors require an external cill to drain water away correctly. If you already have a stone or tiled cill as part of the building you may not require a cill.

As standard our cills are 100mm wider than the door, projecting 50mm on each side.

95mm stub cill
Our shortest cill, protrudes by 25mm.

150mm normal cill
Our most common cill, recommended for most situations.

180mm long cill
For doors that are set further back into the brickwork.

Please note: The cill height is 30mm and if a cill is chosen then these 30mm will be included within the overall height of the door.
For more advice please contact us.

Side window cill

Most windows require an external cill to drain water away correctly. If you already have a stone or tiled cill as part of the building you may not require a cill.

As standard our side window (flag) cills are 50mm wider than the window, projecting 50mm on one side only.

95mm stub cill
Our shortest cill, protrudes by 25mm.

150mm normal cill
Our most common cill, recommended for most situations.

180mm long cill
For windows that are set further back into the brickwork.

Please note: The cill height is 30mm and if a cill is chosen then these 30mm will be included within the overall height of the side window.
For more advice please contact us.

Acoustic glazing

Pilkington Optiphon™ high quality acoustic laminated glass offers excellent noise reduction without reducing light transmittance and impact performance.

Ideal for significantly reducing noise from road, rail or air traffic, factories or nightclubs.

Noise is reflected back towards the source and also absorbed within the glass.

The glass unit is made of a 6.8mm acoustic laminated outer pane, a 18mm Superspacer void and a 4mm inner KS toughened pane.

Being laminated it is also very secure and difficult to break into.

The u-value is 1.2, the same as our superb A+ rated double glazing.

Door security information

Open inside/outside

A door can open in, into your home or out, away from your home, as viewed from outside.

Open out doors have the hinges on the outside, and open in on the inside.

Open out: All open out doors are fitted with a 90 degree restrictor arm as standard to stop the door opening more than 90 degrees.

Open in: We recommend that you add a 25mm frame extender to the hinge side to ensure sufficient space between the hinge and the interior plaster line.

The distance from the hinge to the edge of the outer frame is 16mm:

Hinges Left/Right

Hinges can be at the left or right side of the door. The handle is always at the opposite side.

In the case of a door with an additional side panel, it is recommended that the hinge be placed on the wall side.

The distance from the hinge to the edge of the outer frame is 16mm:

Lever or pad

Normal (lever handle both sides):
This handle allows to open the door from both sides without a key. The advantage of this normal handle is that you can close the door and still get in from the outside without a key, unless you lock it.

Pad (lever inside, pad outside):
A pad does not allow the door to open from the outside without the key. So the advantage is added security, but you have to be careful not to lock yourself out.

Both types require the handle to be lifted in order to engage the multi point locks. Once lifted the key can be turned to fully lock.

Frame extenders

A frame extender increases the thickness of a door frame at a specified side. Great for properties with deep plaster, render or tiles over tiles.

Some fitters buy extenders as a precaution, for example where the door opening has not been built yet. Extenders can be modified to accomodate inconsistent side walls.

Extenders simply clip or slide on the door profile as you can see on the picture.

Example of extender sliding on:

Threshold

Normal threshold:
Our normal UPVC threshold is 70mm high (40mm from bottom of frame to bottom of opening door), not including optional cill. With the benefit of a better seal and insulation.

Low threshold:
The superb Stormguard™ low aluminium threshold is only 25mm high, not including any cill. Optionally with ramps, great for wheelchairs and achieves Part-M, although ramps cannot be used with a cill. In silver, but gold can be supplied if desired, just leave a note at checkout.

Note: On inward opening doors, please make sure there is sufficient clearance between the bottom of the door and the floor inside.

Knocker/spyhole

Knockers are available with or without a spyhole and are matched to your handle colour. The spyhole is built into the door knocker and allows you to view who is outside before opening.

If you prefer a knocker at a different place or colour, please leave a note at checkout.

Note: We do not offer knockers in silver just chrome.

Glass decoration

For added decoration or for a traditional feel we have Georgian bars, Square lead or Diamond lead.

Georgian bars Our Georgian bars are 18mm thick and are placed between the glass panes for ease of cleaning. We do not offer external Astragal bars due to unreliability as they are just taped on. We can instead supply a single horizontal or vertical extra bar. More information on the the glass menu pop-up.

Square lead Our Square lead is traditional lead which is 9mm thick and is placed on both sides of the external pane of glass.

Diamond lead Our Diamond lead is real 9mm thick lead on both sides of the external glass pane.

Note: lead layouts are just a representation, the actual layout will be according to best practice.

Note: For custom or special Georgian/lead layouts, or to match a window with an adjacent door or window, please leave specific instructions as a note at checkout.

Georgian bars

Our Georgian bars are 18mm thick and are fitted between the glass panes for easier cleaning. All Georgian bars are colour matched to your window colours to ensure the right look.

Instructions:

Please choose your own number of horizontal and vertical Georgian squares, or leave it on automatic where the actual layout will be set by us according to best practice.

Small adjustments to align the bars between panes will be done by us.

For custom/special layouts please leave a note at checkout.

Special Georgians

These are some of the special layouts available:

Astragal bars

Astragal bars are fitted externally on both sides on the glass surface and inside to give the complete appearance of separate sections. Whereas Georgian bars are fitted only internally between the glass panes. Astragals imitate wooden traditional glazing bars of old that used to separate windows into smaller sections for an authentic period window look.

Astragal and Georgian bars do not compromise the insulating abilities of the glazing unit as in both cases it remains 1 glazing unit. Our Astragal bars are 20mm thick, and are colour matched to your window colours to ensure the right look.

Small adjustments to align the bars between panes will be done by us.

Glass safety

We supply 3 strengths of glass:

Standard: Normal glass, which is dangerous when broken as it breaks in large sharp pieces.

Toughened: Specially treated to increase its strength and safety.
If broken, toughened glass breaks into many small pieces therefore it's less likely to cause injury.

Laminated: Our strongest glass, similar to a car's windscreen, has a laminated layer that keeps the glass together when broken, making it very difficult to break into. Outer side 6.8mm laminated, inner 4mm toughened glass.

Building regulations apply to glass safety.

Opener choice

Top Opener
A top hinged opener with the handle at the bottom that opens outwards.

Left Opener
A left opener (as seen from the outside always) with the hinge on the left side and the handle on the right side.

Right Opener
A right opener with hinge on the right and the handle on the left.

Dummy Opener
Looks just like a real opener, but it has no handle and does not actually open. It's just decorative to match real operners.

Building regulations apply to ventilation.

Trickle vent

New Building Regulations

We usually supply Glazpart Link-vents rated at 2500, 4000 and 5000mm² EA (Equivalent Area) to help with compliance with the new Part F regulations. Depending on stock levels we may supply an alternative vent.

Vents are placed at the top of the sash to allow limited airflow without having to open the window. They help to control outside air flow reducing condensation and mould.
The external hood has an insect grill, and the internal vent opens and closes.

Trickle vents will closely (but not totally) match the door colour.

Easy upgrade to PAS24

After rigorous product testing on all our components we are proud to hold the PAS24 accreditation on UPVC single and French doors, for your extra peace of mind.

Product Assessment Specification (PAS) 24, is a security standard for windows and doors, to ensure they can resist a certain level of attack from an opportunistic burglar.

PAS 24 (or equivalent standards) is required to meet Building Regs Part Q for new build properties and extensions.

Please note, to comply with PAS24, laminated or acoustic laminated glass must be fitted to all easily accessible doors, door side panels and windows that are adjacent to a door. Please use the glazing button at the left.

For more please see our leaflet.
