Extenders do not add to the overall width/height of door frames.
By choosing extenders the frame will be made slightly smaller, in order to keep the overall width/height including the extender the same as your measurements.
Alternatively, if you wish to add an extender in addition to the overall width/height you measured, please choose the extender and leave a note at checkout.

    Door colours

Our doors can be made for you in a great variety of colours.

All our colours are guaranteed for 10 years for colour stability and discolouration.

Most colours are available as full (both sides) or half (colour outside and plain flat white inside).

The 3 premium colours (Chartwell green, Agate grey and Irish oak) are not in stock, therefore please allow an extra 5 weeks (up to 8 weeks in total).

Disclaimer: We cannot guarantee to match existing colours. For a colour match, please email us with your address for a free swatch.

    Handle colours

Our handles are available in white, polished chrome, polished brass /gold, satin silver or black as you can see in the picture:

    Our door handles

    External cill

Most doors require an external cill to drain water away correctly. If you already have a stone or tiled cill as part of the building you may not require a cill.

As standard our cills are 100mm wider than the door, projecting 50mm on each side.

    85mm stubb cill
This cill only protrudes from the external door face by 15mm.

    155mm normal cill
Our most common cill size covers most situations. Protrudes from the external door face by 85mm. Recommended.

    180mm long cill
If your door is set further back into the brickwork then you may require our largest cill which protrudes from the door by 110mm.

Please note: The cill height is 30mm and if a cill is chosen then these 30mm will be included within the overall height of the door.
For more advice please contact us.

    Fixing kit

Contains approximately 40 assorted packers of various thicknesses (1 to 4mm) ideal for aligning and fitting the frame and glass units (toe and heeling).

    Also approximately 12 concrete countersunk screws 7.5 x 120mm.
Ideal for fixing into concrete, brick, stone, concrete block and wood.

These screws do not require wall plugs. How to video on Youtube.

    Glazing choices

Thermal upgrade as standard, we use the same high quality Pilkington glass as on our windows.

Advanced double glazing Argon filled with 1.22 glass u-rating.

Superior Triple glazing for an amazing 0.70 glass u-rating.

Acoustic glazing for significantly better noise insulation.
    More information

    Acoustic glazing

Pilkington Optiphon™ high quality acoustic laminated glass offers excellent noise reduction without reducing light transmittance and impact performance.

Ideal for significantly reducing noise from road, rail or air traffic, factories or nightclubs.

Noise is reflected back towards the source and also absorbed within the glass.

The glass unit is made of a 6.8mm acoustic laminated outer pane, a 18mm Superspacer void and a 4mm inner KS pane.

Being laminated it is also very secure and difficult to break into.

The u-value is 1.2, the same as our superb A+ rated double glazing.

    Sound reduction Rw(C;Ctr) 41dB(-2; -6)

    Open inside/outside

A door can open in, into your home or out, away from your home.

Open out: The hinges are on the outside. All open out doors are fitted with a 90 degree restrictor arm as standard to stop the door opening more than 90 degrees.

Open in: Hinges are on the inside.
If there are no side panels, we recommend adding a 20mm frame extender to both sides to ensure sufficient space between the hinge and the interior plaster line.

From the hinge to the edge of the outer frame is roughly 16mm:

    Master / slave doors

You can choose to have either side of the French doors as the main opening door (master door).

The master door must be opened first before the second (slave) door is able to open. Usually people just open only the master door.

Please note Left or Right as viewed from the outside.

    Opening example, master opens first,
    with handles on both doors

      Slave door     -     Master door

    Slave door operation

    You can have either:

    Handles on both doors.
As long as you open the master door first, it's very easy to open both doors. Both doors have cylinder locks with 6 identical keys (keyed alike).
The doors look symmetrical and open easily and quickly (please see video example of Master doors).

    Handles on master door only.
In this case, the other door (slave) opens with finger operated shoot- bolts at the top and bottom.
Only the master door has a cylinder lock with 3 keys.
Suitable for people who rarely need to open both doors and prefer it to be obvious which door opens first.

    Opening example, slave door
    with shootbolt (no handle):

    Hinges Left/Right

Hinges can be at the left or right side of the door. The handle is always at the opposite side.

In the case of a door with an additional side panel, it's recommended that the hinge be placed on the wall side.

    Lever or pad

    Normal (lever handle both sides):
This handle allows to open the door from both sides without a key. The advantage of this normal handle is that you can close the door and still get in from the outside without a key, unless you lock it.

    Pad (lever inside, pad outside):
A pad does not allow the door to open from the outside without the key. So the advantage is added security, but you have to be careful not to lock yourself out.

Both types require the handle to be lifted in order to engage the multi point locks. Once lifted the key can be turned to fully lock.

    Frame extenders

A frame extender increases the thickness of a door frame at a specified side. Great for properties with deep plaster, render or tiles over tiles.

Some fitters buy extenders as a precaution, for example where the door opening has not been built yet. Extenders can be modified to accomodate inconsistent side walls.

Extenders simply clip or slide on the door profile as you can see on the picture.

    Example of 20mm extender sliding

    Normal threshold:
Our normal UPVC threshold is 70mm high (not including the cill if chosen), with the benefit of a better seal and insulation.

    Low threshold:
Our low aluminium threshold is 15mm high (not including the cill), enabling easier access, especially for wheelchairs.
On inward opening doors, please make sure there is sufficient clearance internally betwen the bottom of the door and your finished floor.

    Threshold comparison:

Only in this case, there is a small void at the back of the profile which can be filled with the provided black rubber infill strip.

Square lead Our Square lead is traditional lead which is 9mm thick and is placed on both sides of the external pane of glass.

Diamond lead Our Diamond lead like the square lead, is real 9mm thick lead on both sides of the external glass pane.

    Glass safety

We supply 3 strengths of glass:

Standard: Normal glass, which is dangerous when broken as it breaks in large sharp pieces.

Toughened: Specially treated to increase its strength and safety.
If broken, toughened glass breaks into many small pieces therefore it's less likely to cause injury.

Laminated: Our strongest glass, similar to a car's windscreen, has a laminated layer that keeps the glass together when broken, making it very difficult to break into. See the video below:

FENSA building regulations apply to glass safety.

    Opener choice

    Top Opener
A top hinged opener with the handle at the bottom that opens outwards.

    Left Opener
A left opener (as seen from the outside always) with the hinge on the left side and the handle on the right side.

    Right Opener
A right opener with hinge on the right and the handle on the left.

    Dummy Opener
Looks just like a real opener, but it has no handle and does not actually open. It's just decorative to match real operners.

FENSA building regulations apply to ventilation.

    Trickle vents

A trickle vent is an add-on to a window's opener when a small amount of ventilation is required in such areas as kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms.
A trickle vent allows limited airflow without having to open the window fully or partially. It helps to control outside air flow which helps to reduce condensation and mould.

Our trickle vents have 1700mm² opening, 265mm length, 18.5mm height, 20 to 26mm projection and 2212mm² free area.

The trickle vents will match the window's chosen frame colour, except with black/brown frames where anthracite grey vents will be supplied.

FENSA building regulations apply to ventilation.
